One Week Down!

Well, the first week has officially come to a close! So many people I know seem to think I'm crazy for choosing to homeschool, even though my daughter is only in preschool! Apparently, the idea of staying at home with your four-year-old is nuts! Who would have thought?

While it hasn't been easy juggling my own studies with that of my daughter's, I know it will be worth it. I feel so fortunate that I am able to share all of these exciting learning moments with her instead of her being off with some stranger. As wonderful and caring as many school teachers are, they just cannot replace a parent in a child's life. And we, as a population, seem to have forgotten that parents are teachers, too!

During the industrial revolution, the government decided compulsory education was in order due to the large amount of children left in the streets while their parents were working long, exhausting hours. People seem to forget that origin, preferring to fall victim to the false believe that parents were proven to be poor educators, when in fact, schools were simply developed out of a need for childcare, not because of anything lacking in the parents!

We are capable of educating our own children, and the ability to do so is a blessing, not a burden. I feel every parent who has the financial ability and time flexibility to do so, should!
